FAQ's

What is Akaushi beef?
Akaushi is a Japanese breed of cattle, a full blood descendant originating from the Emperor’s herd in Kumamoto, Japan. Akaushi are also known as Red Wagyu or Japanese Brown cattle. The beef produced is richly marbled and is increasing in popularity around the U.S. for its tenderness and flavor.

Why is Akaushi healthier than other kinds of beef?
To learn about Akaushi Beef’s higher concentration of monosaturated fat relative to saturated fat, as well as the natural intense marbling flavor, please visit https://www.akaushi.com/health-benefits. To learn about the heart healthy positive benefits of Akaushi, please visit https://www.heart.org/en/healthy-living/healthy-eating/eat-smart/fats/monounsaturated-fats.

Akaushi beef naturally contains intense marbling. It is generally recognized that fat is responsible for the palatability of beef, but it is actually the monounsaturated fat that is responsible for the flavor. The marbling in Akaushi beef contains a much higher percentage of monounsaturated fat than any other beef in the United States. As a result, Akaushi beef has a rich buttery flavor as well as juiciness and tenderness throughout.

What are the cows fed?
Our cattle are pasture raised up to approximately 700 pounds. This means our cattle are free to roam throughout the year grazing the grass to their hearts content while soaking up lots of Texas sunshine. This makes happy, stress free cows and ultimately better beef! Once they reach that approximate 700 pound weight, we start feeding them a mixture of higher energy grain to ensure they are getting all the nutrients needed to make the most beautiful marbling and the best tasting beef.

Do you feed them any hormones or antibiotics?
We never feed our cattle growth hormones. Since this beef is put on the table of our families, ranch hands and friends every day, we are opposed to any use of growth hormones. Since we consider you a friend too, we assume you don’t want those hormones either! The health of our animals and customers is our top priority, as we believe we have a moral obligation to provide our animals the best possible care. We would never administer antibiotics as a preventative measure in their feeding program.
